I just finished reading this book and enjoyed it. I was a Navy Nuc operator in the 1970's, and went through some of the same experiences as the author. I had to laugh when I read the title. I knew immediately what the book was about. I'll bet there wasn't a nuclear operator in the Navy that didn't know how many days there are in 6 years. Anyone that has a son that is thinking about joining the Navy in the Nuclear Power Program should insist that they read this book so he knows what he is getting himself into. I enjoyed my 6 years in the Navy Nuc Program but, like the author, I was glad when it was over. I gave this book 4 stars because it was too short and the letters home were a little distracting. Other than that it was a fun read to look back and remember the experience. Oh and Dan, if you read these reviews the Hub in Idaho Falls is now a nice upscale Irish Pub bar called the Celt.

2190 Days My Navy Adventure eBook Daniel Bil Reviews

Didn't sound like he really enjoyed his job.
Not a bad read at all.

Paul
This clearly a small town kid writing about his time in the boats. He shows some understanding of the people around him but basically is doing a diary. It is interesting to see how the underside of the Navy works but you never see three dimensional characters
Over looking the typos and grammar, the book was a good read. If the majority of the events and procedures are correct, it seems there's a healthy attitude regarding safety and training issues. I do however still believe Her Majestys Royal Navy to be a better experience. Mr. Bill repeatedly mentions how much work he put into his inspections with no recognition or mention going into the many logs and the fact that some of the other ratings did just enough to get by tells me that HM Royal Navy remains strong at its core.

A good book for a potential sailor.
This would be good for someone interested in going into the navy and the different phases you go through. Seeing how I have been there,I
can relate.
As much as I appreciate Mr Bil's service his book is pretty dull. I can't point to anything in particular that;s wrong but can't tell you anything right about it either. More time about the boat and less time about his off duty activities would be much better. A much, much better book about life on a sub is "Making a Submarine Officer" by Alex Fleming.
Having served in the same capacity on another submarine in the 1970s I read the book to see if things had changed much. Compared to other books on a similar vein the writing is so so with lots of typos. For example it is the Bering Sea NOT the Bearing Sea. Also it was distracting to read the text and then read the same thing on the next page in the "letter home."
having served for four years on an SSBN submarine, I had many friends who were in the engineering department. i feel the author gave a very good 1st person account of what a career in the field entailed for these sailors. i would recommend the book to anyone interested in knowing about life in the submarine service, particularly for the engineers. i was surprised that he did not attend basic submarine school in groton, ct..i'm glad i read this book
